Vicki Wilson has spent three years working to create a community garden in the Foster-Powell neighborhood in Southeast Portland. On Saturday, you can make a big difference in just a few hours — without even picking up a spade.
Stop by between noon and 4 p.m. April 12 at the garden, located at the corner of Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 62nd Avenue, to buy new plants or a ceramic mushroom ornament for your yard. Baked goods will be sold, too, and proceeds will go toward garden projects.
If you have time to stick around, consider painting a wooden flower cutout. They’ll be hung on the fence around the garden to beautify the space and discourage late-night visitors from climbing inside.
Home-brewed beer, a glass art piece and a year’s use of a garden bed will be raffled at the fundraiser. The garden bed winner will get free compost and veggie starts, plus access to tools, trellises and water.
For more information about the plant sale, raffle and flower-painting fundraiser, see the community garden’s website.
