Garden State Plaza closed today, other area malls still deciding –

The state’s largest mall, Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus will be closed all day due to the storm, and three other North Jersey malls have delayed their openings and may open in the afternoon.

The Plaza made the closing decision early, winning cheers from mall workers commenting on social media after it announced the closing on Facebook shortly after 7:30 a.m.

“I feel like I won the lottery,” exclaimed one Facebook poster.

As of 9:30 am, Paramus Park in Paramus and Willowbrook Mall in Wayne said they were considering a delayed opening at noon and that a final decision would be posted on Facebook at 11 a.m. The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack also said it was considering a noon opening. The Saks department store at Riverside will be closed all day even if the mall opens.

With Garden State Plaza being closed for the entire day however, it is likely those malls will do the same, since like school districts the North Jersey malls usually follow each other’s lead.

The Outlets at Bergen Town Center hasn’t posted any information on its website but the mall office is directing callers to contact individuals stores. Century 21 and other stores are closed. Whole Foods Market, the supermarket at the mall, closed at 10 am after being open earlier, according to the mall office. The Target store at the mall is open.

All of the area malls are posting their storm closing information on Facebook.
