Man shot, killed near Garden Grove bank ATM; woman robbed … – OCRegister

GARDEN GROVE – Homicide detectives were investigating the death of a man found with gunshot wounds near an ATM Sunday night, Aug. 6 – just hours after a woman had been robbed there and a suspect arrested for that crime.

Officers found the dead man around 10:10 p.m. after responding to shots fired.

The body was on the ground near the Bank of America ATM on Westminster Avenue and Brookhurst Street. Witnesses told police they heard gunshots and saw two men leaving the bank area in a silver or gray sports car.

The identity of the victim was not immediately known.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Garden Grove Police Department at 714-741-5800.

Two hours earlier, officers were called after a 50-year-old woman was robbed and assaulted while walking to the ATM, money in hand, police said.

Officers found the suspect, a 46-year-old local transient, leaving the scene. He was positively identified as the suspect, and the victim’s money was recovered. He reportedly had a gun but none was found.

The woman, a Garden Grove resident, was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.

“It’s kind of a coincidence that these happened within hours of each other,” Lt. Chris Lawton said.
