The Tyler Rose Garden has always been a favorite place for gardeners in the community. The IDEA Garden is a nice spot to take a seat and enjoy the variety of plants around, and this fall at the IDEA Gardening Series, it’s a place to learn more about gardening as well.

The IDEA Gardening Series is an informative lecture series covering gardening topics suitable for each particular month. Located in the southeast corner of the Tyler Rose Garden, the IDEA garden was created with the goal to inspire the visitor to “Innovate, Demonstrate, Educate & Apply” good gardening practices.

The free monthly lectures are held at noon on the patio in the garden, and they run about 30 to 40 minutes, followed by a question-and-answer session.

September’s theme was “Fall Vegetable Gardening,” and Greg Grant talked to the approximately two dozen people gathered about what vegetables were best to grow in autumn and how to best take care of them.

The lecture series runs through November and is sponsored by the Smith County Master Gardener Association.

Upcoming lectures are:

Oct. 3: – “From, Bulbs to Blooms” (Also a preview of an Oct. 14 sale event)

Nov. 7 – “All about Trees” with Henry Burch

For more information, call the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Smith County Office at 903-590-2980. Seating on the patio at the IDEA Garden is limited, so feel free to bring a lawn chair.
