Daffodils are in full bloom and the tulips are beginning to make their annual appearance, hearkening a much-anticipated spring season. With the blooms popping up, spring gardening should be well under way. Seeking out my own garden inspiration, I’ve posted a bunch of ideas on the Garden Greatness Pinterest board. Here are a few of my favorites.
Tired of planting the same fruits and veggies year after year? Get creative this year and plant a theme garden. Do you want an Italian-themed garden filled with tomatoes, zucchini and all the basil and oregano necessary for a perfect veggie lasagna? Or are you hoping for a Mexican-themed garden filled with cilantro, jalapeños and onions? A Chinese-themed garden would be filled with loads of snap peas, green peppers and cabbage.
As you are preparing your garden soil, it’s a great idea to use old issues of your favorite newspaper as a weed barrier. Cheaper than fabric, the old newspaper prevents weeds for up to two years.
Rainy Day Gardening
When those spring showers force you indoors and out of the garden, continue your garden prep inside. Create some fun plant markers using paint stir sticks and old Scrabble tiles. Or paint pieces of an old yard stick and practice your calligraphy, labeling your basil and cucumber plants.
